1953 Bowman "Firefighters" Complete Set (64)
Starting Bid - $200.00 , Sold For - $587.50
Bowman's "Firefighters" set is one of the most popular and elusive of all 1950s nonsport gum-card issues. Presented is a high-grade complete set of all 64 cards. Forty-three cards range from Ex to Nr/Mt condition (averaging Ex-Mt overall), fifteen are Vg-Ex (including #1 and #64), and six are Vg. The set features incredible multicolor artwork illustrations of fire engines, fireboats, and rescue trucks. The back of each card in the set has a fire prevention tip (e.g., "Don't Play with Matches") printed above the equipment descriptions, which qualifies the set as the first "safety" trading-card set ever produced. The set is accompanied by an original wrapper (Vg-Ex/Ex). This is a very sharp-looking complete set of this very scarce issue. Total 64 cards plus one wrapper. Reserve $200. Estimate $400/$600.
