1948 Leaf Pirate High-Grade Collection (five SGC 98s and two GAI 9.5s)
Starting Bid - $500.00 , Sold For - $2,350.00
Small but incredible group of 1948 cards in miracle condition: Presented is an extraordinary ultra high-grade collection of seven 1948 Leaf "Pirates" cards, each graded and encapsulated GEM 98 by SGC (except two GAI Gem Mint 9.5). These are the first GEM 98 SGC cards we have ever seen from any set ever! This is the cream of the crop, the absolute MINT gems, from a significant pack-fresh find of these nonsport classics years ago. Many of the high-grade examples in the hobby originate from this single find, but only a few cards from the find were actually perfect. As their across-the-board GEM 98 grade by SGC suggests, these cards are beyond belief in their perfection. The primitive design and unusual coloration process used by Leaf make this issue very susceptible to printing flaws and an all-the-greater challenge to collect in high grade. This set is also notorious for often being out of register. These elite examples are the most perfect and highest-grade examples in the universe: #16, 24, 31, 38, 50, 79 (GAI Gem Mint 9.5), and 99 (GAI Gem Mint 9.5). These seven miracle high-grade 1948 Leaf "Pirates" cards are offered as a single collection. Total 7 cards. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000++. SOLD FOR $2,350.00
