1939 and 1941 Gum, Inc. "The World in Arms" and "War Gum" Complete Sets (2)
Starting Bid - $300.00 , Sold For - $1,175.00
Two very attractive mid-grade complete Gum, Inc., sets dating from 1939 and 1941. 1) 1939 R173 Gum Inc. "The World in Arms" Complete Set (forty-eight cards). Seven are Vg-Ex, thirty Vg, and eleven are in slightly lesser condition. This complete set of "The World in Arms" cards features some of the finest artwork of any Gum, Inc., production. The set is organized into six separate series, each with a different theme relating to the arms of the world: "Airplanes," "Ships," "Iron Calvary," "Field Artillery," "Fortifications," and "Miscellaneous." Created in the same era as the gruesome "Horrors of War" issue, the R173 World in Arms series focuses on the weapons used by countries involved in the war efforts. 2) 1941 R164 Gum Inc. "War Gum" Complete Set (132 cards). 90% range from Vg to Ex, averaging Vg-Ex overall, 10% lesser (mostly Gd). Gum, Inc.'s 1941 "War Gum" series is one of the most popular nonsport sets ever issued. Its outstanding color, detailed artwork, popular subject matter, and the exciting adventures presented on the backs all contribute to making this set one of nonsport collecting's all-time classics. Two extremely attractive sets with far better eye-appeal than suggested by their technically accurate assigned grades. Compared to baseball cards of the era, these early nonsport bubble-gum cards, which are at least as scarce, represent a particularly outstanding value. Total 180 cards. Reserve $300. Estimate $500/$1,000. SOLD FOR $1,175.00
