1888 N36 Allen & Ginter American Indians Collection (10)

Starting Bid - $500.00 , Sold For - $1,527.50

Collection of ten different N36 Allen & Ginters large-format American Indians. By any measure, these are among the rarest and most beautiful of all nineteenth-century tobacco-card issues. It is not surprising that these cards have begun to attract serious attention, long overdue, from advanced collectors. The fronts of the cards each have a Vg to Vg-Ex appearance, but all but two (White Shield and Young Black Dog) have been downgraded due to mostly minor back damage in the form of minor paper loss and light glue residue, from long ago being removed from an album. The collection consists of Agate Arrow Point (Gd-Vg), British (Gd), Keokuk's Son (Gd), Man and Chief (Gd), Noon Day (Gd-Vg), Red Bird (Gd), Spotted Tail (Vg), Striker (Gd), White Shield (Gd-Vg), and Young Black Dog (Gd-Vg). Issued in 1888, N36s are one of the rarest of all the Allen & Ginter sets. They feature the same subjects and designs as the smaller N2 Allen & Ginters, but in a larger format and with background artwork added to each card's design. Measuring approximately 2.75 x 3.25 inches, the large-format N36 Allen & Ginters are widely recognized as one of the most attractive and highly-prized card sets ever issued. The set, which features American Indians of the day, has fifty subjects. This is an extremely attractive technically low-grade collection of these rare cards. Total 10 cards. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000/$1,500. SOLD FOR $1,527.50
