1888 N346 Thos. H. Hall "Presidents of the United States" Complete Set (22)
Starting Bid - $200.00 , Sold For - $3,525.00
Addendum: It has been pointed out to us that the cuts on the cards from this set do not appear to be perfect. This is such a rare set that we really don't have any other examples to compare with at this time. We believe that the cut on these cards is often naturally slightly imperfect, and these cards are exactly as issued, but it is possible that they are sheet-cut. This complete set was purchased by our consignor from Murray's in England fifteen years ago.
Complete set of twenty-two 1888 N346 Thos. H. Hall "Presidents of the United States." This is a very strong set of these extremely striking and rare nineteenth-century tobacco cards with conditions ranging from Vg to Ex (includes some technically slightly lesser, but all Good or better, Lincoln with small area of surface paper loss on reverse). Issued with Hall's Cigarettes, the set is entitled "Presidents of the United States," and these cards feature the first twenty-two Presidents of the United States, from George Washington through Grover Cleveland. Hall's Cigarettes is certainly one of the rarer brands among companies that issued nineteenth-century tobacco insert cards. Each insert card measures 2.75 x 1.5 inches and the front of each card depicts a colorized portrait image of the great leaders of our nation with advertising for "Between the Acts" cigarettes on the reverse. This is an extremely attractive set with outstanding eye-appeal. Hall's "Presidents of the United States" are rarely offered as a complete set, and are naturally highly prized by both historical collectors and nineteenth-century nonsport tobacco-card collectors. Total 22 cards. Reserve $200. Estimate $400/$600. SOLD FOR $3,525.00
