Thomas Jefferson Cut Signature with Original Jacques Reich Engraving in Framed Display

Starting Bid - $300.00 , Sold For - $4,700.00

The signature of Thomas Jefferson, third President of the United States, is presented here in a most ideal manner, paired with an original engraving of Jefferson by noted artist Jacques Reich. Jefferson's signature has been scripted in black fountain pen upon a 3 x 1.5-inch sheet of paper and grades "9." The signature has been matted below an impressive engraving (11 x 14 inches) of Jefferson by Jacques Reich, who was one of the top artists in his field in the late 1800s and early 1900s. Reich has signed the piece in pencil in the lower left, and the engraved notation "Copyright 1902 by Jaques Reich N.Y." appears along the top left border. James Reich (1852-1923) emigrated to the United States from Hungary in 1873 and studied at both the National Academy of Art in New York and the Philadelphia Academy of Fine Arts. He later traveled abroad and continued his studies in Paris. In 1885 he moved back to New York, where he established himself as one of the premier portrait artists of his day. This image of Jefferson was executed during the height of Reich's career and is an exceptional rendition of one of the most important figures in American history. Both the signature and engraving are beautifully presented in an impressive gilt-edged wood-framed display. Total dimensions: 23 x 27 inches. LOA from James Spence/JSA. Reserve $300. Estimate $500/$1,000. SOLD FOR $4,700.00
