2003 LeBron James Cleveland Cavaliers "Rookie" Sneakers
Starting Bid - $500.00 , Sold For - $705.00
Pair of size 15 Nike sneakers produced exclusively for use by LeBron James during his 2003-2004 rookie season with the Cleveland Cavaliers. Each white shoe displays red and blue trim, and features his "L23" logo embroidered in white on the front of each tongue. The date, "11-5-2003," is embroidered in gold stitching along the inside heel area of each shoe. As MEARS notes in its accompanying LOA, this particular shoe style was worn by James from 11/5/2003 through 12/23/03, mainly during home games (photo matched from Getty images). LeBron James was the most heralded high school basketball player in history when the Cleveland Cavaliers selected him with the number-one overall pick in the 2003 draft. The hype was not unfounded, as James not only won the Rookie of the Year Award, but also proved himself one of the game’s greatest players. James averaged 20.9 points and 5.9 assists per game during his 2003-2004 rookie campaign and is considered by many to be the "heir apparent" to Michael Jordan. The shoes display light-to-moderate wear overall and the insoles from both shoes have been removed. LOA from Dave Bushing & Troy Kinunen/MEARS. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000+. SOLD FOR $705.00
