1973-1974 Oscar Robertson Milwaukee Bucks Game-Used Road Jersey - Final NBA Season

Starting Bid - $5,000.00 , Sold For - $16,450.00

Rare Milwaukee Bucks road jersey worn by Hall of Fame guard Oscar Robertson during his final NBA season. Graded a perfect A10 by MEARS. This is a museum-quality jersey. The green mesh jersey is lettered "Milwaukee" across the front and features the number "1" on the left breast and reverse. "Robertson" is lettered on the reverse above the number. All front letters and numerals are appliquéd in red on white vinyl; all reverse letters are appliquéd in red on white tackle twill. Located on the left front tail, descending vertically, are a Milwaukee Sporting Goods Sand-Knit distributor tag, a Sand-Knit exclusivity tag (reading "Designed & Tailored Exclusively for the Milwaukee Bucks National Basketball Association by Sand-Knit"), and a Sand-Knit size "42" tag. Original and unaltered, the jersey displays moderate-to-heavy wear throughout. This is a highly significant jersey due to the fact that it can be definitively dated to Robertson's final season in the NBA. The dating is based upon both the manufacturer's tagging, in particular the size tag, and the years Robertson played. The particular size tag featured on this jersey was first introduced by Sand-Knit in 1974. The fact that the 1973-1974 season was Robertson's final year in the NBA conclusively dates this jersey to the second half of that historic year. Because it dates from the second half of the season, the possibility also exists that this jersey was worn by Robertson during the NBA playoffs and finals as well. Oscar Robertson is widely considered to be one of the greatest all-around basketball players in history. The "Big O" averaged over 30 points per game in six of his first seven seasons and is still the only player in history to average a triple-double (ten or more rebounds, assists, and points per game) in a season. Numbered among his many honors and achievements are the 1960-1961 NBA Rookie of the Year Award, the 1963-1964 MVP Award, nine consecutive All NBA First Team selections (1960-1968), and twelve All-Star Game appearances. He was elected to the Basketball Hall of Fame in 1980 and was again honored sixteen years later when he was named one of the 50 Greatest Players in the NBA. Robertson averaged 12.7 points per game with the Bucks during the 1973-1974 season, leading the club to the NBA Finals, where they were defeated in seven games by the Boston Celtics. Graded A10 by MEARS. Oscar Robertson jerseys are extremely rare. This is currently the only Oscar Robertson NBA jersey listed in the entire MEARS census. This jersey has been consigned to this auction directly from the personal collection/inventory of world-renowned bat and jersey authenticators David Bushing and/or Troy Kinunen. LOAs from Dave Bushing & Troy Kinunen/MEARS and James Spence/JSA. Reserve $5,000. Estimate $10,000/$20,000. SOLD FOR $16,450.00
