1903 E107 Breisch-Williams Billy Gilbert

Starting Bid - $500.00 , Sold For - $822.50

Graded FAIR 20 by SGC. E107 Breisch-Williams card of second baseman Billy Gilbert from the New York Giants of the National League. Gilbert is pictured wearing his Baltimore uniform from the 1902 season on this card, and is identified with the New York Giants along the bottom. Gilbert, known as a "scrappy" player, was the key member of the Giants infield when they won pennants in 1904 and 1905. McGraw, managing Baltimore, had purchased Gilbert in 1902 to play shortstop. When McGraw took over the Giants in 1903, Gilbert came along and took charge of second base. Well centered, with a very clean and crisp portrait, evenly rounded corners, and a few spots of surface paper loss on the reverse. This is a very attractive medium-grade example from this rare and important set. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000+. SOLD FOR $822.50
