1910-1948 Boxing Card Collection Including T9 Turkey Red Jack Johnson (14)

Starting Bid - $500.00 , Sold For - $1,057.50

Collection of fourteen different high-quality boxing cards from three different sets, dating from 1910 to 1948, including five cards graded and encapsulated by PSA. 1) Circa 1910 T225 Khedival (12 out of 25 cards in the set): Three of the five different Khedival back variations (no stats - no factory, no stats - factory 348, and stats - factory 348) are represented. All have Surbrug Co. advertisement backs (except one). The collection consists of the following: Coulon (Pr-Fr), two Driscoll (PSA VG-EX 4 and Pr-Fr), two Gardner (Ex and Vg-Ex), Hyland (Vg), Jeanette (PSA EX-MT 6 [MK]), Ketchel (Vg), Lewis (Gd-Vg), McFarland (Gd), O'Leary (PSA VG-EX 4), and Stewart (PSA VG-EX 4, Khedivial advertisement on back). 2) 1911 T9 Turkey Red: Jack Johnson (Vg-Ex appearance, but a light surface wrinkle technically downgrades it to Vg). This is a very attractive example of one of boxing's most important cards, and the key card in what many consider to be the finest boxing set ever produced. 3) 1948 Leaf: #25 Abe Attell (PSA NM-MT 8). Attell is also an important figure in the baseball world, as he is credited with being the "bagman" in the 1919 "Black Sox" World Series scandal. Compared to vintage baseball cards from the same era, boxing cards are beginning to be widely recognized as offering an outstanding value. Even the most advanced collectors find it hard not to appreciate the exceptional quality, design, and rarity of vintage boxing cards. If these were baseball cards of the same rarity, each card would be valued in the thousands. This is an extremely attractive collection of rare and noteworthy boxing cards from three of the most highly regarded of all boxing-card sets. Total 14 cards. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000/$1,500. SOLD FOR $1,057.50
