1889 N43 Allen & Ginter Non-Baseball SGC-Graded Collection (12)
Starting Bid - $400.00 , Sold For - $1,880.00
Collection of twelve different non-baseball N43 Allen & Ginters. All twelve of the cards in this group have been graded and encapsulated by SGC. All of these cards appear at a glance to be high grade, but have been downgraded by SGC for paper loss, glue residue, or paper residue on the reverse from scrapbook removal long ago. One GOOD 30: Crocker (cyclist). Nine FAIR 20: Boyton (swimmer), Daly (all-around athlete), Duffy (pugilist), East (oarsman), Ford (all-around athlete), Havlin (pugilist), La Blanche (pugilist), Page (high jumper), and Temple (cyclist). Two POOR 10: McGee (pugilist) and Rowe (cyclist). Seven of the cards have an Ex-Mt or better appearance from the front and five have a Vg appearance. Although technically in low grade, more than half of the cards are bright and crisp, with four sharp corners, and striking colors. N43s are the rarest of the three Allen & Ginter "Champions" sets. They feature the same subjects and designs as the smaller N29 second series Allen & Ginters, but in a larger format and with extra artwork complimenting the larger design. Measuring approximately 3 x 3.25 inches, the large-format N43 Allen & Ginters are widely recognized as one of the most attractive sets ever issued. The set features champions and stars of the day from a wide variety of sports. This is an exceptionally attractive group of cards that have an appearance far better than suggested by their assigned grades. Total 12 cards. Reserve $400. Estimate $800/$1,200. SOLD FOR $1,880.00
