1898 Cameo Pepsin Gum Boxing Pin Collection (6)
Starting Bid - $200.00 , Sold For - $1,645.00
Collection of six extremely rare nineteenth-century boxing pins from the premier boxing pin set of the era, Cameo Pepsin Gum, produced by American Pepsin Gum Co. These boxing pins were issued at the same time as the famous Cameo Pepsin Gum baseball series pins. This group, in fact, accompanied the thirty-four baseball Cameo Pepsin Gum pins which were recently discovered in a family estate and which appear elsewhere in this auction. The Pepsin Gum boxing pins feature champion boxers of the day, and are among the rarest of all boxing pinbacks. This collection of six is highlighted by one of the key pins in the series, featuring two babies identified as James Corbett and Bob Fitzsimmons sitting in a crib. This is a very amusing pin and a great rarity. We have seen only one other. The other five pins in the collection are of Bob Armstrong, Peter Jackson, Tommy Ryan, Harry Maynard, and Howard Wilson. The images on these pins are a little light (as is often the case with this issue), but all six are otherwise in solid Nr/Mt condition with virtually flawless original back papers intact. Total 6 pins. Reserve $200. Estimate $400/$800. SOLD FOR $1,645.00
