2004 Manny Ramirez Pro-Model Signed World Series Bat
Starting Bid - $500.00 , Sold For - $5,287.50
Rare Louisville Slugger "M9" signature model "S318" bat specially produced for use by Boston Red Sox outfielder Manny Ramirez during the 2004 World Series. Graded a perfect A10 by MEARS; highest-graded example, with no others graded at this level. The black bat is stamped "2004 World Series" in white block letters directly below Ramirez's name on the barrel. Ramirez's uniform number ("24") is written on the knob in silver paint pen. The bat, made of maple, displays significant use along its entire length, including ball and stitch marks, and a heavy amount of pine tar extending from the knob to the lower third of the barrel. An extremely large multiple crack in the handle has been professionally restored. Ramirez has signed the bat in silver paint pen (grading "10") on the sweet spot of the barrel. Factory records indicate a shipment of four black Manny Ramirez "S318" bats, matching this bat's specifications, to Chuck Shupp on 10/19/04 and one other to Shupp on 10/27/04. (Chuck Shupp was, and still is, the player representative for Louisville Slugger.) The 2004 World Series began on October 23rd and ended on October 27th, so it's probable that this bat was from the shipment sent on the nineteenth to Shupp, who then personally hand delivered them to Ramirez. The 2004 World Series marked a historic occasion for Boston fans as the Red Sox finally "reversed the curse" by sweeping the St. Louis Cardinals to capture their first World Championship in eighty-six years. Ramirez played a large part in the Series victory by batting .412 with 1 home run and 4 RBI in the four games. One of the top sluggers of the modern era, Ramirez, barring injury, will become a member of baseball's elite 500 Home Run club in 2008. This is an exceptional and rare World Series bat, belonging to a future Hall of Famer, dating from one of the most historic fall classics of all time. Graded A10 by MEARS (5 point base grade, plus 3 points for use, and 2 points for its World Series provenance. This is an extraordinary bat. One of only fifteen Manny Ramirez pro-model bats listed in the MEARS census, this bat is not only the highest-graded example, but also the only Manny Ramirez World Series bat listed in the census. LOAs from Dave Bushing & Troy Kinunen/MEARS and James Spence/JSA. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000/$1,500. SOLD FOR $5,287.50
