1972 Willie Stargell Pro-Model Bat
Starting Bid - $400.00 , Sold For - $1,410.00
Willie Stargell H&B signature model "K44" bat dating from the 1969-1972 manufacturing period. Graded A8.5 by MEARS, only one graded at this level, with two graded higher. Based upon factory records, the manufacturing date of this bat can be precisely established as the year 1972. Stargell only received two orders of 35-inch "K44" models between the years 1969 and 1972. The first was shipped on 2/25/71, while the other, which was noted as "Wide Grain" in the records, was shipped on 8/3/72. The offered bat is a wide-grain bat and therefore originates from the 1972 shipment. The bat displays significant use including numerous ball marks, deeply embedded stitch marks, and both rack and cleat marks. Most of the use is centered around the area directly below the barrel stamp. Stargell batted .293 with 33 home runs and 112 RBI in 1972. He finished his career with 475 home runs and 1,540 RBI, and was elected to the Hall of Fame in 1988. Length: 35 inches. Weight: 34.9 ounces. Graded A8.5 by MEARS (5 point base grade, with 3 points added for use and a half point for the factory-documented date). This is one of only eight Willie Stargell pro-model bats listed in the MEARS census. This bat has been consigned to this auction directly from the personal collection/inventory of world-renowned bat and jersey authenticators David Bushing and/or Troy Kinunen. LOA from Dave Bushing & Troy Kinunen/MEARS. Reserve $400. Estimate $800/$1,200. SOLD FOR $1,410.00
