1979 Tom Seaver Pro-Model Bat
Starting Bid - $300.00 , Sold For - $940.00
Rare Tom Sever H&B block letter (last name only) model "S44" bat dating from the 1977-1979 manufacturing period. Ideally, the year of production for this particular bat can be pinpointed to the year 1979 based upon factory records. Seaver only placed one order for model "S44" bats between the years 1977 and 1979, with that order (twelve bats) occurring on 5/19/79. The bat displays very light use in the form of rack marks. Seaver's uniform number "41" is written in black marker on both the knob and cupped-barrel end. Seaver was a member of the Cincinnati Reds in 1979 and his sixteen wins helped lead the club to the Western Division title. Seaver finished the year with a record of 16-6 and a 3.14 ERA. One of the greatest pitchers of his era, Seaver is one of only twenty-three pitchers in history to record 300 or more wins and his lifetime total of 3,640 strikeout ranks sixth on the all-time list. He was elected to the Hall of Fame in 1992. Length: 34.5 inches. Weight: 30.3 ounces. Graded A6.5 by MEARS (5 point base grade, plus 1 point for the uniform number on both the knob and barrel end, and another half point for the pinpointed factory records). Tom Seaver pro-model bats are quite rare as evidenced by the fact that this is one of only two examples listed in the entire MEARS population report (the other is graded A7). This bat has been consigned to this auction directly from the personal collection/inventory of world-renowned bat authenticator David Bushing. LOA from Dave Bushing & Troy Kinunen/MEARS. Reserve $300. Estimate $500/$1,000. SOLD FOR $940.00
