1957-1958 Richie Ashburn Pro-Model Bat - Highest-Graded Example

Starting Bid - $800.00 , Sold For - $4,112.50

Richie Ashburn H&B signature model "G7" bat dating from the 1950-1960 manufacturing period. Graded A7 by MEARS, only one graded at this level, with none graded higher. The bat displays heavy use including ball marks, deeply embedded stitch marks, rack and cleat marks, and grain swelling. The bat also displays minor grain separation on the reverse of the barrel and a few minor stains along the top end of the barrel and the reverse. Based upon factory records, the manufacturing period of this bat can be narrowed to the years 1957 or 1958. Ashburn received four shipments of model "G7" bats, matching this bat's specifications, between 4/22/57 and 4/15/58. Richie Ashburn was one of the game's top hitters during the 1950s. He batted over .300 seven times during that period including League-leading totals of .338 in 1955 and .350 in 1958. He also led the League in hits three times and in on-base percentage four times. He retired after the 1962 season with a .308 lifetime average and was elected to the Hall of Fame in 1995. Length: 34.75 inches. Weight: 32.3 ounces. Graded A7 by MEARS (5 point base grade, plus 3 points for use, with 1 point subtracted for both the minor grain separation and staining). This is one of only three Richie Ashburn pro-model bats listed in the MEARS census. This bat has been consigned to this auction directly from the personal collection/inventory of world-renowned bat and jersey authenticators David Bushing and/or Troy Kinunen. LOAs from Dave Bushing & Troy Kinunen/MEARS. Reserve $800. Estimate $1,500/$2,500. SOLD FOR $4,112.50
