1903 E107 Breisch-Williams Ed Poole
Starting Bid - $500.00 , Sold For - $2,115.00
Graded GOOD 30 by SGC. E107 Breisch-Williams card of Cincinnati’s pitcher Ed Poole dressed in street attire. This is a very unusual and distinctively designed card in the E107 series, with the portrait particularly low in the image area of the card, leaving a great deal of blank background space above. This blank space was even more pronounced before the card designer put a blank horizontal strip across the bottom that is the same grey color as the background, under the portrait, to give the portrait a little more height, and to center it a little more on the card. A second-tier pitcher with the pennant-winning Pirates in 1901, Poole was purchased by the Reds, who gave him a shot as a starter. He was 12-4 his first season in Cincinnati but quickly faded. This is a very striking card, with a flawless portrait image, magnificent centering, and even wear to the corners. This card looks much stronger than its assigned grade and has been downgraded due to some very light and insignificant stains on the left and right borders, and toning on the back from once being in an album with old-fashioned photo corners. This is a very unusual and high-quality example from the legendary and elusive E107 series. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000+. SOLD FOR $2,115.00
