1950-1957 Yogi Berra Signed Pro-Model Bat

Starting Bid - $1,000.00 , Sold For - $7,050.00

Yogi Berra H&B signature model "R43" bat dating from the 1950-1960 manufacturing period. Graded A8 by MEARS, one of two graded at this level, with only three graded higher. The manufacturing date of this bat can be more narrowly defined to the period 1950 through 1957 based upon the H&B factory records. Berra first ordered model "R43" bats, matching this bat's specifications, on 4/10/50 and he continued to order them through the 1957 season. One of the most interesting aspects of this bat is the additional stamping of "114A" on the knob. That stamp represents an Adirondack model number. Its presence here indicates that this very bat was later sent to Adirondack by Berra for use as a template for future bat orders from the company. The bat displays heavy use including ball marks, deeply embedded stitch marks, and cleat marks. Berra has signed the bat in blue marker (grading "10") on the sweet spot of the barrel. Ideally, this bat dates from both the height of Berra's legendary career and the Yankees 1950s baseball dynasty. Berra won three MVP Awards between the years 1950 and 1957 (1951, 1954, and 1955) and he was instrumental in the Yankees winning seven pennants and five World Championships over that eight-year period. Today, Berra is not only revered as one of the game's most popular players, but is also regarded as the greatest living Yankees player. Length: 34.75 inches. Weight: 34.4 ounces. Graded A8 by MEARS (base grade of 5, plus 3 points for use). This bat has been consigned to this auction directly from the personal collection/inventory of world-renowned bat and jersey authenticators David Bushing and/or Troy Kinunen. LOAs from Dave Bushing & Troy Kinunen/MEARS and James Spence/JSA. Reserve $1,000. Estimate $2,000/$3,000. SOLD FOR $7,050.00
