1993 Rickey Henderson Oakland A's Home Jersey
Starting Bid - $300.00 , Sold For - $940.00
Rickey Henderson Oakland A’s home jersey dating to the 1993 season. The white knit jersey is lettered “Athletics” across the front and features the number “24” on both the left breast and reverse. “Henderson” is lettered on the reverse above the number. All letters and numbers are appliquéd in green on gold tackle twill. An Oakland A’s “elephant” patch appears on the left sleeve. Situated on the left front tail are a “Russell Athletic 44” label and a laundry-care tag. The jersey is completely original, with no alterations, and displays light use. Despite the absence of a year tag, this jersey can be precisely dated to 1993 based upon an analysis of both the sleeve patch configuration and the manufacturer's label. Henderson batted .327 with 17 home runs and 47 RBI with Oakland before being traded to Toronto in midseason. Henderson retired after the 2003 season as the game’s all-time leader in stolen bases (1,406) and one of only twenty-six players in history to have amassed 3,000 or more hits. Today, he is considered by many to be the greatest leadoff hitter in baseball history. Graded A5 by MEARS (no post-1987 jersey can achieve a higher grade than A5 without additional provenance). LOA from Dave Bushing & Troy Kinunen/MEARS. This is one of seven Rickey Henderson Oakland A's jerseys listed in the MEARS census, none of which grade higher than A5. This jersey has been consigned to this auction directly from the personal collection/inventory of world-renowned bat and jersey authenticator David Bushing. LOA from Dave Bushing & Troy Kinunen/MEARS. Reserve $300. Estimate $500/$1,000. SOLD FOR $940.00
