1969 Al Ferrara San Diego Padres Game-Used Uniform with 200th Anniversary Patch - Inaugural Season

Starting Bid - $500.00 , Sold For - $2,937.50

Exceedingly rare 1969 San Diego Padres road uniform worn by outfielder Al Ferrara during the club's inaugural 1969 season. Graded a perfect A10 by MEARS. This significance of this particular jersey, aside from being worn during the club's inaugural season, is the presence of the one-year-only San Diego 200th anniversary patch on the left sleeve. This is one of only three 1969 San Diego Padres Road jerseys listed in the MEARS population report, and it is the only example to retain the patch and the only example graded A10. The 1969 San Diego 200th anniversary patch, which was worn on the team's road jersey and alternate jersey, is one of the rarest of all uniform patches; as MEARS notes in its accompanying LOA, this is the first example they have ever seen. The gray flannel jersey is lettered "San Diego" across the front and features the number "9" on the reverse. All letters and numerals are appliquéd in brown felt on gold tackle twill. The player's name ("Al Ferrara") is chain-stitched in brown upon a gray strip tag in the collar. The year ("1969") is chain-stitched in brown on the left front tail. Also located on the left front tail is a "Wilson 44" label. The jersey is completely original, with no alterations, and displays moderate wear, including light soiling. Graded A10 by MEARS. Ideally, the jersey is accompanied by a pair of matching gray-flannel pants from the same season. Both the year and inseam measurement ("1969 - 26") are chain-stitched in black upon a white strip tag in the waistband. Stitched directly above the year and inseam measurement is the notation "PT - 65" (tailor's code). Located to the left of the strip tag is a "Wilson 36" label. The number "9" (Ferrara's uniform number) is written in vintage black marker on the waistband and the interior lining of each pocket. Aside from a few minor team repairs, the pants are completely original, with no alterations, and display moderate-to-heavy wear including soiling. Al Ferrara batted .260 with 14 home runs and 56 RBI in 1969. He played two more seasons with San Diego before retiring in 1971. LOA from Dave Bushing & Troy Kinunen/MEARS. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000/$2,000+. SOLD FOR $2,937.50
