1964 Bob Shaw San Francisco Giants Game-Used Home Jersey

Starting Bid - $300.00 , Sold For - $1,175.00

San Francisco Giants jersey worn by journeyman pitcher Bob Shaw in 1964. The white flannel jersey is lettered "Giants" across the front and features the number "29" on the reverse. All letters and numerals are appliquéd in black felt on orange tackle twill. The name "Shaw" is chain-stitched in orange upon a white strip tag in the collar. The number "29" is written in faded black marker directly below the name tag. Located on the left front tail are a "McAuliffe" label, a "64" year tag, and a "46" size tag. This jersey was originally obtained directly from the San Francisco Giants as evidenced by the proprietary stamp on the interior left-front tail which reads "Purchased From San Francisco Giants." Original and unaltered, the jersey displays moderate wear, including a slight separation of the orange twill along the top of the numeral "2." Bob Shaw enjoyed a number of fine seasons during his eleven-year career (1957-1967), highlighted by his eighteen-win season in 1959 with the pennant winning "Go-Go" White Sox, a year in which he also led the League in winning percentage. In 1964, Shaw's first season with the Giants, he finished the year with a 7-6 record and 3.76 ERA. Today, Shaw is best know as the author of the book Pitching , which is considered to be one of the finest baseball instructional books ever written. Graded A9.5 by MEARS (base grade of 10, with a half point deducted for the slight separation of the twill on the numeral "2"). This is the only Bob Shaw jersey, and one of only two 1964 San Francisco Giants home jerseys listed in the MEARS census (the other grades A9). This is an outstanding high-grade and scarce "style" jersey dating from the early 1960s. This jersey has been consigned to this auction directly from the personal collection/inventory of world-renowned bat and jersey authenticator David Bushing. LOA from Dave Bushing & Troy Kinunen/MEARS. Reserve $300. Estimate $500/$1,000. SOLD FOR $1,175.00
