1969 George Mitterwald Minnesota Twins Game-Used Road Jersey

Starting Bid - $200.00 , Sold For - $1,292.50

Minnesota Twins road jersey worn by catcher George Mitterwald in 1969. Graded a perfect A10 by MEARS. The gray flannel jersey is lettered "Twins" across the front and features the number "15" on the reverse. All letters and numerals are appliquéd in blue on red tackle twill. A Minnesota Twins team patch is located on the right sleeve, while a Major League Baseball "100th Anniversary" patch adorns the left sleeve. The name "Mitterwald" is chain-stitched in blue upon a strip tag in the collar. The player's name, uniform number, size, and year ("Mitterwald 34 42 69") are chain-stitched in blue directly on the left front tail. Interestingly, even though this jersey is tagged for 1969, it mistakenly lists Mitterwald's uniform number from the previous season ("34") on the tail. Also located on the left front tail are a "Spalding" label, an adjacent "42" size tag, and a laundry tag. Original and unaltered, the jersey displays moderate wear throughout. Mitterwald appeared in sixty-nine games in 1969, batting .257 with 5 home runs and 13 RBI. The Twins won the first of two consecutive Western Division titles that year, only to be swept in the playoffs by the Baltimore Orioles. Graded A10 by MEARS. This is the only 1969 Minnesota Twins jersey listed in the MEARS population report. This jersey has been consigned to this auction directly from the personal collection/inventory of world-renowned bat and jersey authenticators David Bushing and/or Troy Kinunen. LOAs from Dave Bushing & Troy Kinunen/MEARS. Reserve $200. Estimate $400/$800. SOLD FOR $1,292.50
