1963 Mike McCormick Baltimore Orioles Game-Used Road Jersey
Starting Bid - $500.00 , Sold For - $2,937.50
Baltimore Orioles road jersey worn by former National League Cy Young Award winner Mike McCormick in 1963. The gray flannel jersey, with zipper front, is lettered "Baltimore" across the chest and features the number "40" on the left breast and reverse. All letters and numerals are appliquéd in orange on black felt. A Baltimore Orioles team patch appears on the left sleeve. The year, uniform number, and size ("63 40 44") are chain-stitched in black upon a gray strip tag in the collar. A "Spalding" label is located on the left front tail, while a laundry tag can be found on the interior left front tail. Aside from the sleeve patch having been replaced, the jersey is all original, with no alterations. Moderate wear is displayed throughout the garment, including minor staining around the collar and shoulder areas. Graded A8 by MEARS (base graded of 10, with 1 point deducted for the replaced patch and another point for the staining). This is the only Mike McCormick jersey, and just one of seven 1960s Orioles jerseys, listed in the MEARS population report. Mike McCormick was 6-8 with Baltimore in 1963, but three years earlier (with San Francisco) he led the National League in ERA. In 1967 he returned to San Francisco and again enjoyed great success, compiling a 22-10 record with a 2.85 ERA. Those numbers later earned him the Cy Young Award at season's end. He retired in 1971 with a 134-128 lifetime record. This jersey has been consigned to this auction directly from the personal collection/inventory of world-renowned bat and jersey authenticators David Bushing and/or Troy Kinunen. LOA from Dave Bushing & Troy Kinunen/MEARS. Reserve $500. Reserve $1,000/$1,500. SOLD FOR $2,937.50
