1954 Hank Bauer New York Yankees Game-Used Road Jersey

Starting Bid - $300.00 , Sold For - $1,880.00

New York Yankees road jersey worn by outfielder Hank Bauer in 1954. The gray flannel jersey is lettered "New York" across the front and features the number "9" on the reverse. All letters and numerals are appliquéd in navy felt. The name "Bauer H" is chain-stitched in blue upon a white strip tag in the collar. The year ("1954") is chain-stitched in blue along the left front tail. Also located on the left front tail are a "Wilson" label, an adjacent "46" size tag, and a laundry tag. Both the team name on the front and the number on the reverse have been completely restored; otherwise the jersey is completely original with no other alterations. It was very common for Yankees jerseys from this era to be sent down to the minors for use (at which time numbers and team names were then often removed), and this was no doubt the case with this game-used 1954 Hank Bauer jersey. Displays moderate wear. Bauer is one of the most memorable Yankees of his era. He was a fixture in the Yankees outfield from 1949 through 1959, during which time he led the Yankees to eight pennants and seven World Championships. He also appeared in three consecutive All-Star Games (1952-1954). Bauer batted .294 with 12 home runs and 54 RBI in 1954. He retired after the 1961 season with a .271 lifetime average. Graded A5 by MEARS (base grade of 10, with 5 points subtracted, in total, for restoration to the lettering and to the number). This is the only Hank Bauer Yankees jersey and only the third 1954 Yankees jersey listed in the MEARS census. LOA from Dave Bushing & Troy Kinunen/MEARS. Reserve $300. Estimate $500/$1,000. SOLD FOR $1,880.00
