1934 Babe Ruth Quaker Cereal Store Advertising Display
Starting Bid - $300.00 , Sold For - $1,292.50
This beautiful full-color cardboard store display advertising sign (19.5 x 16.25 inches) features Babe Ruth endorsing Quaker Oats Cereal. The display, which features both a photo and illustration of Ruth, encourages kids to join "Babe Ruth's Baseball Club" and win a variety of prizes. Membership in the club was open to any child who sent in a box top from either Quaker Puffed Rice or Wheat. In the mid 1930s, several similar Quaker Oats signs featuring its star endorser, Babe Ruth, were produced for display in grocery stores. All are classics. Many collectors feel these signs are among the best values of all Babe Ruth and 1930s baseball advertising displays. We agree. Today, these signs occasionally surface, probably because they are so substantial and attractive that even in 1934 this sign looked like it was worth saving. They are very rarely found without condition problems of some type, and most examples we have seen have benefitted from some minor professional restoration. This example is no exception. The restoration, which is mainly in the border and corner areas, has been professionally executed and the piece displays as beautifully as it did when originally issued. This is an exceptional example of one of the most classic and substantial store display pieces of the era, featuring Babe Ruth. Reserve $300. Estimate $500/$1,000. SOLD FOR $1,292.50
