1925 and 1927 Pittsburgh Pirates World Series Press Pin Collection (2)

Starting Bid - $500.00 , Sold For - $3,818.75

Two Pittsburgh Pirates World Series press pins issued, respectively, in 1925 and 1927. Collectors have always considered these two pins to be among the rarest, as well as among the most attractive, examples issued during the decade. The Pirates defeated the Senators in the 1925 World Series, but were easily dispatched two years later by the legendary 1927 New York Yankees. The 1927 Yankees press pin gets most of the attention among press pins from the mid-1920s, but each of these two Pirate pins is actually rarer, and both are usually among the last ones needed by collectors assembling a run of 1920s press pins. Both pins were manufactured by Whitehead & Hoag, feature a threaded-post back, and are complete with original clasps as issued. Each of the offered pins is an extremely high-grade example in Near Mint condition. Total: 2 pins. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000/$2,000+. SOLD FOR $3,818.75
