1898 Cameo Pepsin Gum Willie Keeler Pin
Starting Bid - $1,000.00 , Sold For - $2,937.50
1898 Cameo Pepsin Gum pin of Hall of Famer Wee Willie Keeler, featuring him with the Baltimore Orioles early in his career. Keeler is one of the great highlights of the Cameo Pepsin Gum pin set. Very few issues of any kind feature Keeler with Baltimore in the 1890s. This pin was one of the highlights of an exciting new find of thirty-four Cameo Pepsin Gum pins which was recently discovered in a family estate. Keeler is a particularly rare and desirable Pepsin Gum pin. This is only the second example we have ever seen. The other example was extremely faded, unlike this extraordinary example which we believe is as good as one will ever see for a Baltimore player. The quality of the photo contrast on Pepsin pins is directly related to the production process and materials used, which varied from team to team. Cincinnati and Chicago players, for example, tend to have superb contrast. (Note: If left in improper conditions, these too can fade). The Pepsin Gum pin photos of Baltimore players (as well as players from several other teams such as Indianapolis, for example), in comparison, have weak contrast. For a Baltimore player, this Keeler has a particularly outstanding contrast. This is an incredible pin. We do not think there could ever be a finer example. Near Mint to Mint condition with original back paper complete and intact. Diameter: 1.25 inches. Reserve $1,000. Estimate (open). SOLD FOR $2,937.50
