1964 Mickey Mantle/Roger Maris/Willie Mays "All-Star" Youth Wristwatch in Original Box

Starting Bid - $100.00 , Sold For - $470.00

In terms of display value, this youth "All-Star" wristwatch, endorsed by Mickey Mantle, Roger Maris, and Willie Mays, is overshadowed by its package design, which includes the original cardboard insert featuring portrait illustrations of each player. The magnificent design of the packaging, after all, was all that could attract attention on store shelves in 1964, and so no expense or effort was spared to make it as eye-catching as possible. The watch shows up regularly, but the cardboard insert was not intended to be saved, and is naturally rare. The insert, which at first glance appears to be the lid to the box (the actual lid, which is not present, was probably a plastic covering that allowed for the viewing of the insert), features a baseball diamond design with portrait illustrations of Mays, Maris, and Mantle positioned, respectively, at third base, home plate, and first base. Each player's facsimile signature appears next to his image. The company name and year of issue, "1964 Bradley Time Division," is printed on the front of the insert. The reverse bears the company's guarantee with regard to performance and lists the address for repair service. The face of the enclosed watch features an illustration of a baseball that is lettered "All-Star," as well as the facsimile signatures of all three endorsers: Mantle, Maris, and Mays, but has no portraits of the stars. The watch, with metal wristband, is missing its plastic face covering but is otherwise in Mint condition and remains in perfect working order. The insert (5.5 x 3.5 inches, unfolded) has a few minor creases and edge wear, and is in Very Good to Excellent condition. The red box (5.5 x 2 x 2 inches) is in Very Good condition, with a few minor abrasions. Reserve $100. Estimate $200/$400. SOLD FOR $470.00
