Lou Gehrig, Mickey Mantle, and Joe DiMaggio Memorabilia Collection Including Two Signed Items (12 Items)

This diverse collection of New York Yankees memorabilia is comprised of very interesting items relating to Yankee legends Lou Gehrig, Mickey Mantle, and Joe DiMaggio (including one item signed by each Mantle and DiMaggio): 1) Circa 1933 Lou Gehrig "Knot Hole League of America" patch and accompanying flyer. The blue patch (3.25 inches in diameter) is in Near Mint condition, while the flyer, which unfolds to dimensions of 10 x 12.25 inches and features numerous premiums available to "Knot Hole" members, is in Very Good condition. 2) 1950 Joe DiMaggio brand baseball cleats in their original retail box. Produced by the Endicott Johnson Corporation. The shoes, size 3 1/2, are in Near Mint condition. The box (6.5 x 13 x 4.5 inches), which features a large, full-color image of DiMaggio on the lid, remains in remarkable condition given its age and fragile nature. The price "$2. 00 ," is written on the lid in black marker and there is a separation of the flaps along one corner of the lid, otherwise in Excellent condition. 3) Original 1954 news photo of Joe DiMaggio and Marilyn Monroe. The photo (7.5 x 8.5 inches) pictures DiMaggio and Monroe at the San Francisco airport after returning from Korea (Monroe was entertaining the U.S. troops there). Stamped "Feb 26 1954 - Philadelphia Inquirer" on the reverse. A newspaper clipping of the original caption has been affixed to the reverse. Vg. 4) Circa 1950s matchbook from DiMaggio's on Fisherman's Wharf restaurant. DiMaggio is pictured on the cover. The matches have been removed, otherwise Ex. 2 x 2.25 inches. 5) Circa 1950s Mickey Mantle pencil set, signed by Mantle. Complete as issued, with two pencils, each featuring Mantle's portrait image. The pencils are stapled onto a retail cardboard backing featuring the same portrait image of Mantle. Mantle has signed the front of the piece in blue Sharpie (grading "10"). 3.5 x 9.25 inches. Vg. 6) 1950s Mickey Mantle Holiday Inn Collection (3). Each of these three pieces originates from Mantle's Holiday Inn in Joplin, Missouri, and is comprised of a "Country Cookin'" plate (7 inches in diameter) and bowl (5 inches in diameter), and a complete matchbook (2 x 2 inches) featuring Mantle's image on the cover. All three items are in Near Mint condition. 7) Mickey Mantle souvenir necklace. Necklace (11-inch chain) featuring baseball charms and Mantle's full name spelled out on individual ivory colored blocks. Ex-Mt. 8) 1962 Topps baseball card (#18) signed by Mickey Mantle and Willie Mays. The card features both players and has been signed by each in blue Sharpie (grading "10") on the front. Vg. 9) 1962 Mickey Mantle "Batting Tips" booklet. Issued by the Alvarin Co. of Newton Centre, Massachusetts. The cover of the small booklet (2.75 x 5.5 inches) features an image of Mantle in a batting pose. Nr-Mt. 10) 1960s retail bag for two Mantle and Maris boy's tee shirts. The clear plastic bag features large images of both Mantle and Maris in batting poses as well as the official "Maris/Mantle Wear" logo. Ex (bag only, tee shirts not included). 11) First edition of Where Have You Gone Joe Dimaggio by Maurey Allen, signed by DiMaggio on the interior. DiMaggio has signed the book on the interior in blue ink (grading "10") next to a photo of himself and Marilyn Monroe posing together. E. P. Dutton & Co., Inc., New York, 1975. Ex-Mt, with its original dust jacket (Ex). Also included is a copy of a photo picturing Lou Gehrig lying on his sofa. Fascinating and unusual collection of quality items. LOA from James Spence/JSA.
