1954-1957 Mickey Mantle MM8 Rawlings Glove Picture Box

Starting Bid - $500.00 , Sold For - $2,115.00

This 1950s Rawlings retail box, which once housed a Mickey Mantle Professional Model "MM8" baseball glove, is one of the rarest and most impressive product-related Mantle display pieces from the era. Glove boxes tend not to survive, naturally, as they were not intended to be saved. Mantle is pictured not only on the lid, but also on all four side panels. The front and rear panels (which are identical) are the most striking, for they picture three individual photos of Mantle, in three different poses: batting, standing, and a bust-length profile. The other two side panels (also identical) feature Mantle in a fielding pose next to his name in large letters. The lid displays a large illustration of the glove and a photo of Mantle in the lower right corner. The Rawlings Mickey Mantle "MM8" baseball glove was produced between the years 1954 and 1957, a period highlighted by Mantle's 1956 Triple Crown season. The offered box (8 x 8 x 6.5 inches) is not only extremely rare, it is also a condition rarity. While technically in Very Good condition (with minor edge wear, a few slight creases, and a small tear to one of the corners seams of the lid), the box is in remarkable condition given its age and fragile nature. There are no major tears or stains, which are almost always seen in retail boxes of this vintage, and the box, as a whole, presents minimally as Excellent. This is a premier Mantle display piece, dating from the height of his career, that would be a highlight item in any advanced advertising display or Mickey Mantle collection. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000/$1,500. SOLD FOR $2,115.00
