Joe DiMaggio Studio Portrait and Two Yankees Black Bats from His Personal Collection
Starting Bid - $500.00 , Sold For - $2,937.50
When Joe DiMaggio passed away in 1999 he left behind a large collection of baseball material that was sold at public auction by his two granddaughters in 2006. Offered here are three desirable display pieces that were purchased by our consignor directly from that historic sale. The first two items are Joe DiMaggio's personal World Series black bats from the years 1942 and 1949, respectively, that were presented to him as a member of the Yankees. Each player received one of these special bats as a keepsake. Each bat features the Yankees team name and year stamped in green lettering, along with the gilt-stamped facsimile signatures and/or names of the respective team members, including DiMaggio. The 1942 bat is in Excellent to Mint condition, while the 1949 bat is in Excellent condition. Also included in this lot from DiMaggio's personal collection is a large 11 x 14-inch matte finish professional studio portrait. Ideally, DiMaggio's left hand is positioned in such a manner that one can clearly see his 1936 World Series ring. (All of DiMaggio's original World Series rings were stolen many years later and never recovered.) A "Sherman Studio, N.Y." credit stamp appears on the reverse. Excellent to Mint condition. Each item is accompanied by an individual LOA, attesting to its provenance, each signed by DiMaggio's two granddaughters (three DiMaggio family LOAs in total). Total: 3 items (photo and two black bats). Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000+. SOLD FOR $2,937.50
