1935 Babe Ruth Quaker Oats Advertising and Premium Collection

Each of the Babe Ruth items offered here is related to Ruth's promotion of Quaker Oats' Puffed Wheat and Puffed Rice cereals during the mid 1930s. The "lure" of that advertising campaign was the offer of prizes that could only be obtained through the redemption of box tops of Puffed Rice and Puffed Wheat cereal. Offered here is an outstanding near-complete collection of those premiums as well as related contest coupons and advertising pieces. 1) Babe Ruth flip book. One side of the book pictures Ruth hitting a home run, while the flip side (pun intended) pictures him fielding. 2 x 3 inches. With a small dark rust stain from the staple on each side, otherwise Ex. 2) A complete set of Babe Ruth's Famous Series on "How to Play Baseball" (four small instructional manuals, each measuring 3.25 x 4.5 inches, together with their original mailing envelope). The books are Nr-Mt, the envelope is Vg-Ex. 3) Babe Ruth Baseball Scorer. Ruth's portrait image is on the front ("B" on cap variety). Diameter: 1.75 inches. Ex. 4) Twenty-four "Ask Me" Baseball Game Cards (missing two cards for completion). Each side contains baseball trivia questions. 2.25 x 5.5 inches. Overall Ex. 5) Two official "Babe Ruth Baseball Club" membership cards, each in its original envelope. Each card features a space for the name of the club member to be written in (both cards are blank). The cards (3.5 x 2 inches) and envelopes are each lightly soiled, otherwise Ex. 6) Two Babe Ruth pin-back buttons. One is the celluloid membership pin for the Babe Ruth Baseball Club and features a portrait image of Ruth (one-inch in diameter). The other is a similar bronze pin featuring Ruth's portrait in raised relief and is lettered "Babe Ruth Champions." Both Vg-Ex. 7) Premium flyer. The double-sided flyer lists the prizes offered for redemption, including a number presented here in this collection. With normal mailing folds. Ex. 9 x 8.25 inches (unfolded). 8) Babe Ruth Club Weekly Contest Form Sheet. Tri-fold sheet features eleven different weekly contest forms, each of which asks a different question. Two of the forms have been removed and all of the others display handwritten answers in pencil. 19.24 x 11.25 inches (unfolded). Vg. 9) Sunday comics newspaper advertisement for Puffed Wheat and Puffed Rice. Ruth is featured in the cartoon and the advertisement also lists a number of prizes offered for redemption. 15 x 9.5 inches. Ex. Matted and framed to total dimensions of 22 x 16.5 inches.
