1903 E107 Breisch-Williams Joe McGinnity HOF Rookie
Starting Bid - $800.00 , Sold For - $5,287.50
Graded POOR 10 by SGC. E107 Breisch-Williams series card featuring Hall of Fame pitcher Joe “Iron Man” McGinnity of the New York Giants of the National League. Despite the low SGC grade, this is a very attractive card. McGinnity was one of the greatest pitching legends of his era. As a rookie he won 28 games, and for the next decade he averaged 25 victories each season, pitching over 300 innings every year but one. He earned his nickname by on occasion pitching both ends of a doubleheader. Issued in 1903, E107s have long been revered by collectors. This set represents the only major baseball-card set of the era, features many players that appear in no other sets, and includes the first cards ever issued of many important stars and Hall of Famers, including Joe McGinnity. Bright and clean, with evenly rounded corners, and centered slightly to the left. Downgraded by SGC in part for having an area of surface paper loss in the center of the reverse (from having been removed from a scrapbook long ago). This is a very attractive example of this extremely important card with a far superior appearance than suggested by its harsh SGC grade. Reserve $800. Estimate $1,500/$2,500. SOLD FOR $5,287.50
