1919-1931 New York Giants Sterling Silver Pass Collection (11)
Starting Bid - $1,500.00 , Sold For - $8,812.50
From 1919 through 1931 the New York Giants issued beautifully designed sterling silver passes to season-ticket holders and select dignitaries. These passes, each of which is uniquely designed in a variety of shapes and baseball motifs, entitled the bearer entry to every Giants game at the Polo Grounds during the season. All are rare, especially those from the earlier years of the series. Offered here is an amazing near-complete collection of eleven (out of a possible twelve) different New York Giants silver passes. Every season between the years 1919 and 1931 is represented here with the exception of 1930 (Note: 1930 is among the more easily found years for sterling silver Giants passes and there was no sterling silver Giants pass issued in 1928.) This is the largest collection of these passes we have ever offered. Due to the rarity of the early years, very few complete sets have ever been assembled. Many of the early years are particularly rare. We believe that as the years passed, demand increased among those aware of these prestigious passes, and more people received them until finally the practice was discontinued altogether after 1931. This would explain why the last few years of issue, while still rare, are more plentiful than earlier years. Each pass was produced by Lambert Bros. of New York and each prominently displays the year of issue on the front. Engraved on the reverse of each pass is the respective patron’s name (only the 1919 pass has the patron’s name on the front) and the official pass number. All are marked “Sterling “ on the reverse. Sizes vary, but all are approximately 1.5 inches in length. The 1926 example was issued to Henry Groh, who played with the club in 1912 and 1913, and then again from 1922 through 1926. The years included in the collection are as follows: 1919, 1920, 1921, 1922 (pennant design with blue and white enamel on silver), 1923, 1924, 1925, 1926, 1927, 1929, 1931. This is a beautiful group. All are in Excellent to Mint (or better) condition. Total: 11 passes. Reserve $1,500. Estimate $3,000/$5,000. SOLD FOR $8,812.50
