1884 New York Gothams (vs. Chicago White Stockings) Scorecard
Starting Bid - $100.00 , Sold For - $822.50
Two-page fold-over scorecard for an 1884 National League game between the New York Gothams and Chicago White Stockings held at the Polo Grounds in New York. The colorful cover features a comic illustration of a batter, below which is the caption "Three Strikes And Out." These early scorecards represent an extraordinary value for nineteenth-century collectors. It is remarkable to even think that this program recorded a game boasting so many of the era's greatest stars. The preprinted lineups feature a remarkable six future Hall of Fame players including Buck Ewing, John Ward, Roger Connor, and Mickey Welch for New York, and Cap Anson and Mike "King" Kelly for Chicago. Neatly scored in pencil, recording a 13-9 win by Chicago. The scorecard (3.75 x 6 inches, unfolded) displays a tiny tack hole at each corner, minor separation along the ends of the centerfold, and general light wear including a small abrasion on the cover. Very Good condition.
