Exceptional Nineteenth-Century Baseball Stein

Starting Bid - $300.00 , Sold For - $3,525.00

This Royal Bonn earthenware stein, with decorative metal lid, features a very attractive baseball scene of a game-in-progress on the exterior. The incised notation "Franz Ant. Mehlem - Bonn Rhein" appears along the bottom. Royal Bonn operated under the Franz Anton Mehlem Earthenware Factory from 1836 to 1920; however, the incised marking here was only used by the company between the years 1887 and 1920. Although we cannot state with certainty, it seems highly probable that this particular piece dates to the nineteenth century due to the style of dress and equipment depicted. The stein measures 9 inches in height and remains in exceptional Near Mint condition. Reserve $300. Estimate $500/$1,000. SOLD FOR $3,525.00
