Cy Young Award Winners Signed Items Collection (3)
Starting Bid - $500.00 , Sold For - $940.00
The Cy Young Award is annually given to each League's top pitcher. To date, sixty-four different pitchers have won the award since its inception in 1956. (Only one award, for both Leagues, was presented from 1956 through 1966.) Offered here is an outstanding signed commemorative print and two signed baseballs, each signed by a bevy of former Cy Young Award winners. The investment in time, energy, travel, and money that was required to assemble these keepsakes was very substantial, and each was obviously a project motivated by a love of collecting as opposed to economic considerations. 1) Commemorative Cy Young Award Winners Signed Print. This impressive display piece, which pictures an actual Cy Young Award set against a background image of Hall of Fame pitcher Cy Young (for whom the award is named), has been signed in black Sharpie (grading a perfect "10") by thirty-eight different former winners. Ideally, nearly all of them have also included the year (or years) that they won the award below their name: Steve Bedrosian, Vida Blue, Steve Carlton, Dean Chance, Roger Clemens, Mike Cuellar, David Cone, Mark Davis, Doug Drabek, Dennis Eckersley, Rollie Fingers, Mike Flanagan, Bob Gibson, Tom Glavine, Dwight Gooden, Ron Guidry, Roy Halladay, Willie Hernandez, LaMarr Hoyt, Fergie Jenkins, Randy Jones, Sandy Koufax, Vern Law, Jim Lonborg, Sparky Lyle, Mike McCormick, Jack McDowell, Denny McLain, Don Newcombe (the first Cy Young Award winner in 1956), Jim Palmer, Gaylord Perry, Jim Perry, Brett Saberhagen, Tom Seaver, Bruce Sutter, Bob Turley, Fernando Valenzuela, and Frank Viola. The print (16 x 20 inches) is in apparent Mint condition and has been matted and framed to total dimensions of 21 x 25 inches. 2) Cy Young Award Winners Signed Ball. Seventeen blue-ink signatures ("10") on a Near Mint official Major League (Selig) ball: Sandy Koufax (sweet spot), Dennis Eckersley, Rollie Fingers, Greg Maddux, Steve Carlton, Sparky Lyle, Brett Saberhagen, Whitey Ford, Jim Lonborg, Mike Flanagan, Fernando Valenzuela, Bob Gibson, Frank Viola, LaMarr Hoyt, Mike Cuellar, Dwight Gooden, and Tom Seaver. All but Maddux have added the year (or years) they won the award below their name. 3) Cy Young Award Winners Signed Ball. Seventeen blue-ink signatures ("10") on a Near Mint official Major League (Selig) ball: Don Newcombe (sweet spot), Jim Palmer, Denny McLain (twice), Willie Hernandez, Gaylord Perry, Bruce Sutter, Doug Drabek, Jack McDowell, Mike McCormick, David Cone, Ron Guidry, Fergie Jenkins, Roger Clemens, Dean Chance, Vern Law, Bob Turley. All but Roger Clemens have added the year (or years) they won the award below their name. LOA from James Spence/JSA. Total: 3 items (1 signed print and 2 signed balls). Reserve $500.
