George Steinbrenner Single-Signed Baseballs (2)

Starting Bid - $200.00 , Sold For - $352.50

Offered here are two baseballs signed by one of the most successful, colorful, and temperamental owners of all time: George Steinbrenner. Each signature has been scripted in blue marker on the side panel of an official American League (Brown) ball and grades "9/10." These two single-signed balls were obtained many years ago in person by our consignors, two brothers, now adults, who had the good fortune to visit Yankee Stadium as youngsters and came prepared with balls and pens. They were actually hoping to get Don Mattingly to sign these balls but happened to have the opportunity to meet "The Boss." Twenty years later it appears that meeting Steinbrenner instead of Mattingly may have been good fortune as well. Like many baseball executives, Steinbrenner rarely was asked or had occasion to signed balls. Since obtaining ownership of the Yankees in 1973, his club has captured ten pennants and six World Championships, the most of any club during that span. Presently, only three team owners have been elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame (Yawkey, Veeck, and just recently O'Malley). Steinbrenner's influence on the game has been immense and he may someday be the fourth. Offered as a pair just as they were obtained decades ago, someday the resale value of one of these balls may be more than the current value of both. Each ball is in Near Mint condition. LOA from James Spence/JSA. Total: 2 balls. Reserve $200. Estimate $300+. SOLD FOR $352.50
