1971 New York Yankees Team-Signed Sheet Including Thurman Munson

Starting Bid - $200.00 , Sold For - $822.50

This 8 x 10-inch sheet of unlined white paper has been signed in black marker by twenty-seven members of the 1971 New York Yankees. The most notable signature on the sheet belongs to catcher Thurman Munson, who was playing in just his second full season in the Majors that year. Included among the other signatures are those of Elston Howard (coach), Ralph Houk (Mgr.), Mel Stottlemyre, Roy White, Fritz Peterson, Horace Clarke, Felipe Alou, Ron Swoboda, Mike Kekich, Roger Hambright, Alan Closter, Steve Kline, Jim Lyttle, Ron Hansen, Jerry Kenny, Rob Gardner, and Gene Michael. All of the signatures are uniform in strength and grade “9/10.” The sheet appears to be neatly trimmed to its current dimensions, with two of the signatures at the bottom having been very slightly affected (Closter and Kenny); otherwise it is in Excellent condition. Munson’s signature, of course, is quite scarce today due to his untimely death in 1979. The Munson signature offered here is an early example and the fact that it appears within the context of a team sheet is especially rare, unusual, and ideal for display, as well as naturally providing collectors with an added degree of assurance with regard to authenticity. The sheet has been beautifully matted and framed together with two non-vintage photos (each Nr-Mt). The first pictures Thurman Munson in a batting pose and the second captures Elston Howard being greeted at home plate after hitting a home run. Total dimensions: 34.5 x 16.5 inches. LOA from James Spence/JSA. Reserve $200. Estimate $300/$500. SOLD FOR $822.50
