1940s through 1960s New York Yankees Pennant Collection (24)
Starting Bid - $500.00, Sold For - $2,643.75
Pennants were among the most decorative and popular of all team souvenirs sold at stadium concession stands for much of the twentieth century, and their popularity continues to this day. Offered here is large and very diverse collection of New York Yankees pennants dating from approximately the 1940s through the 1960s, assembled by a dedicated collector one pennant at a time. A total of twenty-four pennants are included (twenty-two different), and all display exceptional visual appeal. This extremely substantial group includes a number of significant rarities, and represents one of the most comprehensive collections of Yankee pennants we have ever seen offered. Among the highlights are two pennants picturing generic illustrations of a left-handed batter (one wearing number "3") that are unmistakably that of Ruth, an outstanding 1961 photo pennant (one of the great classics of all pennants), a 1957 World Series pennant, a 1960 World Series pennant, and two identical 1968 photo pennants. Three of the pennants measure 23 inches in length, while the remainder are all standard size, measuring approximately 28 inches in length. Many display extremely minor condition flaws common to vintage pennants including light cracking to the paint, tack holes, and slight fading. Otherwise, the collection grades Ex overall. All of the pennants can be viewed on our website. Total: 24 pennants (22 different). Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000++. SOLD FOR $2,643.75
