1888 WG1 Card Game PSA-Graded Collection Including Keefe (6)
Starting Bid - $500.00, Sold For - $1,645.00
Collection of six 1888 WG1 Base Ball Playing cards, highlighted by Hall of Famers Tim Keefe and Ned Hanlon, each graded by PSA: Fred Dunlap (Pittsburgh, EX-MT 6), Ned Hanlon (Detroit, VG-EX 4), Tim Keefe (New York, GOOD 2), Danny Richardson (New York, GOOD 2), Pap Smith (Pittsburgh, GOOD 2), and Ezra Sutton (Boston, PR-FR 1, Vg-Ex appearance, downgraded due to a small edge tear, no paper loss). This is a very attractive group of these beautiful cards, all with bright colors, none mishandled but a few no doubt long ago played with as intended. WG1s are one of the few full-color sets of the 1880s, and is by far the most substantial and comprehensive full-color set featuring real likenesses of the era. The WG1 set includes seventy-two cards featuring players from the eight National League teams of the day. Each team is represented by nine players (one at each position). The cards measure 2.5 x 3.5 inches and fronts feature color drawings of real ballplayers in action poses. The backs are blue with an ornate design. The entire set of cards was sold as a boxed set, and was designed to resemble a regular deck of playing cards. This is a very attractive group of these early classics including legendary Hall of Famers Tim Keefe and Ned Hanlon. Total 6 cards. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000/$1,500. SOLD FOR $1,645.00
