1875 Mechanical Dark Town Battery Baseball Bank

Starting Bid - $300.00, Sold For - $2,115.00

Classic nineteenth-century cast-iron bank features a figural pitcher, batter, and catcher, set above the rectangular coin-vault base. Each of the "players" has a moving head and arms. The pitcher's arm swings back and, when a button is pushed, pitches a coin into the trap door on the catcher's stomach while the batter swings and misses. "Pat Feb 9 1875" stamped on the bottom. Extremely desirable bank highly regarded by baseball, Americana, and mechanical-bank collectors alike. The bank is in perfect working order and exhibits wear commensurate with its age including the loss and/or fading of much of the original paint (common to this piece). Very Good condition overall. 9.5 x 2.75 x 7 inches. Reserve $300. Estimate $500/$1,000. SOLD FOR $2,115.00
