Perez-Steele Galleries Hall of Famer Signed "Guarantee Registration Card" Archive (168)

Starting Bid - $1,000.00, Sold For - $3,231.25

Collection of 168 Hall of Famer signed Guarantee Registration Cards, all originating directly from the files of Perez-Steele Galleries, for the three subscriber-based Perez-Steele Galleries card sets: the Hall of Fame Postcard series (1980-2003), the Masterworks set (1990-1992), and the "Great Moments" series (1985-1997). Each of these documents in card form is signed by the respective Hall of Famer. A total of forty-five different Hall of Famers are represented within the collection. As former subscribers to these classic sets are well aware, when each series was received by collectors, included was a "Guarantee Registration Card." These cards, which were the same dimensions and stock as the Hall of Fame Postcard series (5.5 x 3.5 inches), had to be filled out and returned to Perez-Steele Galleries in order to continue receiving future series. The card formally registered the individually numbered series and guaranteed that the collector would be able to receive the same serial numbered set of the next series. No exceptions were made with this system, even for the Hall of Fame players themselves who were given the courtesy of complimentary subscriptions to these sets. Offered here are 168 Hall of Famer signed “guarantee registration cards” (also known as “GRCs”), representing forty-five different Hall of Fame players. All of these cards originate from the original larger collection of exactly 223 cards auctioned by Robert Edward Auctions in May 2005 (when we handled the sale of the files of Perez-Steele Galleries) and have been consigned directly from the original buyer. The three Freddy Lindstrom signed GRCs included here are of special note as there are no signed Perez-Steele postcards of Lindstrom due to his date of death. A GRC card is as close as one can possibly get to owning a signed Perez-Steele Hall of Fame postcard of Freddy Lindstrom. The Hall of Famer signed GRCs in this collection, with the number for each (if more than one) noted in parenthesis, are Alston (2), Averill (4), Barlick (6), Bell (2), Berra (2), Boudreau (6), Conlan (6), Cronin (3), Dandridge (6), Dickey (6), Doerr (3), Feller (2), Ferrell (3), Ford, Gehringer (4), Gibson, Gomez (6), Herman (5), Hoyt, Hubbell (3), Irvin (7), J. Johnson (3), Kaline (2), Lemon (2), Leonard, Lindstrom (3), Lopez (3), Lyons (3), Marichal (3), Mathews (4), McCovey (5), Mize (8), Palmer (8), Reese (5), Roberts, B. Robinson (4), Roush, Ruffing (2), Sewell (6), Slaughter (5), Spahn (4), Terry (3), L. Waner (3), B. Williams (6), and T. Williams (4). The signatures, penned in a variety of inks, all grade "9-10." For some reason, all four of the Earl Averill cards were originally signed by Bill Dickey. Dickey's name has been crossed out on all four cards and Averill 's signature and address were then added. Also included are fifteen GRCs that have been signed by the spouse/relative of a former player or bear the printed name of a player (possibly in the player's hand, but there is no way to know for certain). All of the cards are in Excellent to Mint to Nr/Mt-Mt condition. Total: 183 cards (168 signed cards and 15 additional printed/spousal cards). LOA from James Spence/JSA. Reserve $1,000. Estimate $2,000/$3,000. SOLD FOR $3,231.25
