1971 Golf Tournament Program Signed by 50+ Baseball and Football Players Including DiMaggio, J. Robinson, Mantle and Munson (Twice)
Starting Bid - $200.00, Sold For - $1,527.50
1971 American Airlines Astrojet Golf Classic program signed on the two interior pages, which are provided specifically for signatures, by fifty-eight former pro baseball and football stars, including numerous Hall of Fame players. All of the signatures have been penned in black ink on the program's two designated "autograph" pages, with a few of the players having signed twice. Included among the baseball signers are Joe DiMaggio, Mickey Mantle, Jackie Robinson, Jim Palmer (twice), Jim Bunning, Hank Aaron, Brooks Robinson, Willie Mays, Yogi Berra, Thurman Munson (twice), Ernie Banks, Johnny Bench, Juan Marichal, Nellie Briles, Bobby Murcer, Donn Clendenon, Sal Bando, Jerry Kooseman, Sam McDowell (signed simply "Sudden Sam"), Dave McNally (twice), Tommy Agee, Ron Santo (twice), Jim Merritt, Joel Horlen, Gary Peters, Willie Davis, Jimmy Wynn, Jim Fregosi (twice), and Clyde Wright. The football signers include Johnny Unitas, Otto Graham, Don Maynard, Ray Nitschke, Fred Biletnikoff, Lance Alworth, Paul Krause, Leroy Kelly, Jerry Kramer, Jim Bakken, Jim Hart, Willie Richardson (twice), Joe Kapp, Wayne Walker, Bill Nelson (twice), George Andrie, Norm Snead, Ron Bull, Bruce Gossett (twice), Craig Morton, Dennis Shaw, Mike Lucci, and Mike Richardson. The remaining six signatures are illegible. The signatures are all boldly penned and grade "9" on average, with the exception of three (Jackie Robinson, Norm Snead, and Fred Biletnikoff) which grade "6" overall. A slight smudge affects the Gossett and one of the two Fregosi signatures. The format of the golf tournament paired a baseball player and football player together as a team and the roster, as one can tell by the autographs, was a veritable "who's who" of each league's top players. All told, the signatures of twelve different baseball and eight different football Hall of Fame players are represented on the autograph pages. Ideally, the autograph pages are facing each other and can therefore be displayed together. One of the autograph pages has detached from the spine; otherwise the eighty-eight page program is in Very Good to Excellent condition overall. LOA from James Spence/JSA. Reserve $200. Estimate $400/$800. SOLD FOR $1,527.50
