1957 Ty Cobb Signed Postcard with Hit Record-Related Date
Starting Bid - $200.00, Sold For - $822.50
Postcard from The Clemson House, a hotel in South Carolina, signed on the reverse in blue ink (grading “10”) by Ty Cobb. The famed “Georgia Peach” has also added the date, “9/8/57” below his name. Exactly twenty-eight years later, on September 8, 1985, Pete Rose tied Cobb’s career record of 4,191 hits with a fifth-inning single off of Cubs pitcher Reggie Patterson. The card (5.5 x 3.25 inches) displays light soiling on the reverse and a few minor indentations (not affecting the signature). The front of the postcard features a photo of the hotel. In Very Good to Excellent condition. LOA from James Spence/JSA. Reserve $200. Estimate $400/$600. SOLD FOR $822.50
