Bing Crosby Signed News Photo Personalized to Honus Wagner
Starting Bid - $100.00, Sold For - $587.50
While Bing Crosby’s name today is rarely mentioned in baseball circles, he was an ardent fan and in 1946 became a minority owner of the Pittsburgh Pirates. Offered is a charming circa 1950 Associated Press news photo capturing Crosby cavorting on the field with the legendary Honus Wagner, who at the time was a member of the Pirates coaching staff. The two are pictured striking a similar pose and Crosby has inscribed the photo in blue ink “To my favorite uncle – Honus – Bing Crosby.” Both Crosby’s inscription and signature grade “8” overall. The photo (7 x 9 inches) has a few small staple holes in the border areas as well as a few light surface wrinkles (primarily along the borders). An Associated Press news stamp appears on the reverse. Very Good to Excellent condition. LOA from James Spence/JSA. Reserve $100. Estimate $200/$300. SOLD FOR $587.50
