1888 N162 Goodwin Champions Collection of Six Baseball Players
Starting Bid - $500.00, Sold For - $3,231.25
Collection of six baseball players (out of eight ballplayers in the set) from the 1888 N162 Goodwin Champions set (missing Anson and Brouthers). All six cards have been graded by PSA. This is an interesting group in that most are very attractive despite their modest grades. The PSA condition report is as follows: Ed Andrews ("Authentic," this card has a strong Ex-Mt appearance but apparently has a slight trim), Bob Caruthers (GOOD 2), Dunlap (Pittsburgh, EX 5 [MK], this is a nice looking card but seriously overgraded as there is a small area of surface paper loss to the right of Dunlap's ear. The small scribble on the back responsible for the "MK" is very minor), Jack Glasscock (GOOD 2), Tim Keefe (HOF, PR-FR 1, beautiful front with just a couple of flakes, but with serious back damage; paper loss on reverse affects most of the reverse of the card), and King Kelly (HOF, PR-FR 1, crisp card with bright, clean front, with a few pinpoint surface flakes on front, and surface paper loss to reverse affecting about 20% of the back of the card). This is relatively affordable (for this issue) and still very attractive collection of six cards from this highly prized set, which is considered by many to be the single most beautiful of all the nineteenth-century tobacco issues. Total 6 cards. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000/$1,500. SOLD FOR $3,231.25
