Ty Cobb Single-Signed Ball - PSA NM-MT 8

Starting Bid - $1,000.00, Sold For - $6,462.50

Spectacular Ty Cobb single-signed ball, penned just four months prior to his passing, graded NM-MT 8 by PSA. The official American League (Cronin) ball has been personally inscribed and dated by Cobb in blue ink on a side panel: "To Barbara Burns - From Ty Cobb - 3/22/61." Ty Cobb single-signed balls have always been highly prized by autograph collectors. Although he was a relatively accommodating signer over the years, Cobb's reputation for being unfriendly and unapproachable no doubt played a significant role in making single-signed Ty Cobb baseballs far rarer than single-signed Ruth balls, despite the fact that Cobb lived thirteen years longer than Ruth. Some collectors shy away from single-signed balls with personalizations, but from our perspective we find personalized balls particularly desirable as they provide a context, often include a date, and provide more writing by the player. This is a particularly exceptional and extremely high-grade example for a Cobb single-signed ball. LOA from James Spence/JSA. Reserve $1,000. Estimate $2,000/$3,000. SOLD FOR $6,462.50
