1940s Joe DiMaggio Signed Liberty Advertising Broadside from the Barry Halper Collection
Starting Bid - $500.00, Sold For - $1,645.00
This colorful and very striking 1940s advertising broadside, promoting Liberty magazine, originates from the famed Barry Halper Collection and has been personalized to Barry by DiMaggio. This is a particularly rare advertising display and, in fact, is one of only two examples that we have ever seen. The high-quality cardboard window display sign features a large portrait of DiMaggio and encourages patrons to read about "The Great Joe DiMaggio" in the newest issue of Liberty . Joe, as was his custom, not only inscribed the piece to Barry but also added an insightful comment: "To Barry - You could at one time buy this popular magazine for a nickel. - Best Always Joe DiMaggio." Both DiMaggio's inscription and signature have been flawlessly scripted in blue Sharpie and grade a perfect "10." The broadside (10 x 13 inches) displays a horizontal fold and a few light creases which are minor and in no way detract from its exceptional overall Excellent appearance. Matted and framed to total dimensions of 17.25 x 20.25 inches. LOA from James Spence/JSA. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000/$1,500. SOLD FOR $1,645.00
