1935 Hall of Fame Cut Signature Collection: Ruth, Gehrig, Lazzeri, and Vance
Starting Bid - $500.00, Sold For - $7,050.00
This collection of four desirable vintage cut signatures, each originating from a 1935 Who's Who in the Major Leagues , is comprised of Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig, Tony Lazzeri, and Dazzy Vance. For many fans back in the 1930s, the annual Who’s Who in the Major Leagues served not only as an invaluable reference work, but also as an ideal autograph album. The four offered signatures were taken from a 1935 Who's Who in the Major Leagues book, but instead of having the players sign the book directly, the original owner instead obtained cut signatures of the players and neatly affixed them next to their respective photos, where they still remain today. The Ruth, Gehrig, and Lazzeri signatures have all been scripted in black fountain pen and grade "9/10" with the exception of Gehrig ("8," slight smudge to the first “G” in “Gehrig"). Vance's signature has been scripted in pencil ("8/9"). The pages have been neatly trimmed to their current dimensions (each approximately 6 x 3 inches) and the cuts are in Excellent to Mint condition. This is an outstanding collection of four extremely desirable and rare cut signature examples, all of which would be ideal candidates for encapsulation and grading. LOA from James Spence/JSA. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000/$2,000+. SOLD FOR $7,050.00
